Bridging The Impossible
Theo Lauber has built thousands of suspension bridges across the globe to bring people together and bridge the gap between communities. In Frutigen, in the Bernese Oberland, the Wafler family, living on a remote farm, had a suspension footbridge constructed so their children could make their way to school by crossing the Entschlige River. Drawing crowds like bees to honey, this first bridge was replaced by one of Europe's longest suspension bridges. In the Simmental valley at Oberwil, farmer Christian Haueter commissioned the Leiternweide suspension bridge, perched at 111 meters above ground, so his cattle could reach pastureland while steering clear of a treacherous, slippery path and the ever-present threat of avalanches.
