Boiling Point: Europe's Lakes On Fire
With climate change, this year's scorching lake temperatures are wreaking havoc on Europe's lakes in surprising ways. In Switzerland and France, freshwater jellyfish are popping up as soon as waters hit 25°C. Cyanobacteria can also prove deadly for dogs, drawn in by the smells they give off. These temperatures are triggering other changes in flora and fauna. Fish like the Féra are slowly vanishing, making way for far more invasive species, including big predatory fish like catfish.
