Who are the animal rights activists calling for an antispeciesist revolution? Over the past few years, they have illegally occupied slaughterhouses, freed animal held in poor conditions, smashed up butcher shops. Animal rights activists have spread their radical message through spectacular actions and shocking footage shot illegally in slaughterhouses. For young hooded activists, civil disobedience and sabotage are part of an overall strategy aimed at bringing down the speciesism system responsible for animal cruelty. Treated as eco-terrorists, tried and imprisoned, animal rights activists are nevertheless bringing their message home, as more and more ordinary families, farmers included, become animal welfare advocates, although few condone the violent actions of radical animal rights activists. Our journalists investigate a semi-clandestine movement whose ideology is today more debated than ever.
