Unsolved crimes or cold cases benefit the ongoing advances in forensic medicine. But in Switzerland, the 30-year statute of limitations that de facto puts an end to investigations often leaves the victims' families devastated. The Sarah Oberson case is embematic of this. 40 years after the little girl went missing, her sister continues to fight her way to the truth. In France, the statute of limitations can be extended. A special unit of the Nanterre court is even exclusively devoted to cold cases. We went to meet lawyers, investigators and vicims' families who, in addition to the pain of having lost a loved one, must learn to live without answers as to the crime that changed their life.
