Organ Donation, From One Life To The Next
Through the overwhelming testimony of the parents of Laurent Kremer, the 20-year-old young man who was one of the six victims of the Liège massacre, this survey tackles organ donation from the perspective of the donors families, patients and caregivers. But while organ donation keeps saving lives every day, not all patients waiting for transplants are equal, depending on their country of origin. In Belgium, every citizen is considered a potential donor, unless they have expressed their opposition by registering on a national register. In Switzerland, however, explicit consent prevails. As in Germany, England, the Netherlands or Denmark, ICU nurses and doctors have to contact relatives of brain-dead patients in order to obtain their explicit consent regarding organ donation. This report shows how caregivers are trained to tackle this sensitive mission, and how some parents, already torn apart by the loss of their child, somehow manage to begin mourning with an ultimate act of love.On the same topic, please check-out here other RTS programs relating to organ donation.
