Samos: The Shameful Camp At The Gates Of Europe

Watch Video
PDF
As a gateway to Europe, the Greek island of Samos has become a hellish journey for thousands of migrants who have no choice but to wait, sometimes for years, for a response to their asylum applications. 3,500 migrants, mostly Africans, Afghans and Syrians, are crammed on 0.2 km2 of land. The asylum seekers live among rats and suffer from cold and lack of hygiene in a climate of tension and risk of sexual assault. The Greek authorities have banned foreign media from entering the official camp. So we’ve met migrants from the jungle, where the coronavirus is just one of many threats: fires, rapes, scarifications, suicides. Our journalists report on the shameful refugee camp at the gates of Europe.
