Four Headaches And A Funeral
The topic of death is taboo, the more so when it concerns one’s own mortality. Yet, taking the time to prepare for the occasion helps to alleviate the suffering of close relatives and spare them unnecessary inconveniences. If arrangements are not made beforehand, the survivors may be confronted with an overwhelming number of problems and dilemmas, both administrative and financial. How do we deal with the debts left to us by our dear departed ? What about their pet ? Should we honor their last burial wishes, even when they demand that their ashes are to be scattered from a 4000 meter summit ? Even when the decision is made to prepare for one’s own passing ahead of time, it should be done according to the rules. An inexact term in the will may be enough to block inheritance. And in this age of the internet, it is also important to think of preparing a digital will, at the risk of never dying on the web.
