When Healing Isn't The Ending
One has to learn how to heal. And it's not because the medical treatment is considered a success that the patient's journey is over. This documentary looks back on the journey of four people marked by a serious or chronic illness. They now have to deal with a new identity: that of a person who has recovered. Corinne, who has suffered from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder for 30 years, underwent deep brain stimulation. Jérémy survived testicular cancer at the age of 33. Maria battled obesity and underwent gastric bypass surgery. Sandra struggled with disabling functional neurological disorders for years. They all speak of the "burden of normality", the difficulty of adapting to an apparently normal life after a long illness. It’s only by embracing the heavy toll the illness took on them that they were able to get a new lease on life.
