Who are these young would-be martyrs who leave home to fight alongside the bloodthirsty jihadists of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq? For the first time ever, a European film crew follows in the footsteps of a former jihadist who escaped the Islamic State noose after spending three months in Syria. With his agreement, the crew retraces his journey from his home in Switzerland to Syria to join the jihadists. Sébastien decided to leave the terrorist group early, after only a few days in Syrian training camps. He spent 54 days in Islamic State jails before returning home in March 2014. Thanks to Sébastien's story, our journalist was able to unravel the complex web of Swiss jihadist recruitment networks.Other young people are unable or unwilling to leave the extremist group. This exclusive investigation at the Turkish-Syrian border reveals that a young Swiss and his unit were on the spot on the day of the bloody crucifixions that horrified the entire world. Did young Europeans have a hand in the slaughter? Did they have a choice? This is a shattering look at how young people are recruited into ultra-radical groups that use war crimes as weapons of terror.
