DNA tests claiming to reveal the origins of one's ancestors are all the rage on the Internet. But the transmission of particularly sensitive, intimate and coveted genomic data is not without risks. Admittedly, DNA data can be essential for advancing medical research. But it could one day be used by insurance companies or banks for much less altruistic purposes. France is left with few means of action on the internet in spite of a very strict law on data protection. Thanks to DNA test, Arthur Kermalvezen became the first French born by sperm donation to discover the identity of his donor, whose anonymity was theoretically guaranteed by law.
