What if male gynaecologists were becoming a thing of the past? The question may come as a surprise, but the statistics are crystal clear: only a handful of young male doctors are still choosing to specialize in gynaecology and obstetrics. There’s the fear of a wrong move or an inappropriate comment, or even worse, of being taken to court.Besides, are male doctors really “fit for the job”? Who better than a woman could walk in another woman’s shoes? The #MeToo wave has turned the tables on consent and brought violence against women into the spotlight. While for over a century women had no say in the matter, today 7 out of 10 women would rather see a female gynaecologist. The writing is on the wall: out of ten gynaecologists, there will maybe soon be nine women and one man.
