Big Game, Big Business

The safari business in South Africa is booming . But while African wildlife is a dream for many tourists, poaching threatens more than ever animal life. Despite the war being waged between rangers and poachers, wildlife has dramatically disappeared in some countries. National parks have become a terrain for massacres motivated by money, driven by poverty and organized by criminal networks . In the meantime, South Africa has opted for the business of wild animals, with the creation of 11,000 private ranches. Surrounded by electrified fences, the animals are photographed, hunted and even genetically selected. An industry that benefits taxidermists , farmers who put their animals up for auction for big bucks, and also exporters of bush meat, a product increasingly popular in Europe. This industry generates an income of one billion dollars to the country's economy. Paradoxically, the safari business has now become essential to the survival of wildlife.
